DitD 24 ghost hunters

“What do you mean locked?” I asked. “Are they on a remote timer or were you mistaken?”

“I mean that I tried everything to open the door and it wouldn’t budge.” Pat was still freaking out.

“Maybe it’s jammed. We will try the back door and find a nun. They should be able to help us find a way out of here.” I said

“Fuck, it sounds like you are going to split up to get out of here,” Pat said. “That’s a terrible idea. We need to stick together.”

“Ok. Let me think,” Pat was right. We needed to stick together. I was so concerned about the locked egress that I almost forgot about Tom. We really had two objectives. The egress needed to be a priority. So if I had Steve try to get the doors open Pat and I could go search the church for Tom. The nuns can fuck themselves my team comes first. “Alright, Steve,” I said on the radio. “See what you can do about the doors, Pat and I are going deeper into the church to see if we can find Tom.”

“Bad… something is wrong with… not sure… figures remain… cameras obscured…” Steve said and then the radio died. It was obvious that we were on our own. But sitting in one place wasn’t helping. I stood up and started down the stars. I pointed to Pat and then made two fingers split pointed out towards the church. Pat grabbed my collar and began to look behind us. I scanned the church in front of me and to my side. The church was dark but the red from my flashlight illuminated where I was looking. Pats light was doing a sweeping behind us. To prevent having a 360 field to watch we kept close to the wall. I could feel eyes on us. I glanced towards the crucifix. No. It was still in the original pose. We approached a door. I held up a fist and stopped. Pat took a knee and began to search the entire church while I got into a push-up position and rocked into the doorway. Peaking in as I moved. It was too dark so I stood up grabbing my flashlight and did a quick search. It seemed safe so I tapped Pat’s shoulder. He stood up and grabbed my collar again. The door way was another set of stairs. The church had a basement that they normally used for gatherings and snacks.

“Something has been bothering me since we got here.” I whispered to Pat.

“Yeah, what’s that?” Pat asked quietly.

“Where has the priest been? I mean the priest is the head of the church isn’t he?” I asked.

“I was wondering the same thing. Maybe the puppet master is pulling these strings the way he feels will get us running for the hills.” Pat said. At the bottom of the stairs we did a quick search of the room. There was a hallway that lead along the side of the building in the basement. We followed it when I heard Captain Millers voice.

“Stop choking on that dick and speak up son!” Captain Miller said.

“Captain?” I called out in the darkness.

“Keep it together John.” Pat said. “I can’t lose you now. We are in too deep!”

“You’re right… Cap is dead. He can’t call out to me.” I said trying to regain my sense of reality.

“Keep your heads on a swivel, we ain’t in Kansas anymore.” Captain Miller said. He obviously watched too many movies. I tried to ignore him but then he said something that wasn’t an echo from my memory. “Get ready, through the door on your left is where the fun begins.” What the hell was that voice saying? We weren’t already having fun? I don’t know how much more I can take.

“I swear if I hear Captain Miller one more fucking time I’m going to lose it.” Pat said.

“Wait, you fucking hear him too?” I asked confused.

“Yeah. We must be on the right trail.” Pat said.

I examined the nameplate on the door. The name plate said, “Father Damon McDyer”. Maybe the ghost of Captain Miller was confirming our suspicions about the priest. Only one way to find out. I shined my light down the hallway the rest of the way. I looked like it opened to a room at the end of the hall. I looked a Pat who seemed nervous about both possibilities.

“Post up, we are clearing this room first.” I said. I posted on the other side of the door and reached for the door handle. Pat put his back to the wall. He gave me a nod and held his flashlight out like a rifle. I opened the door and we did a room sweep from the hallway.
